Repeated ecomorphological divergence in Bujurquina (Teleostei: Cichlidae) body shape

چکیده
Based on recent discoveries, Bujurquina appears to be the most widely distributed and species-rich cichlid genus in western Amazon of South America. In this study, using a large representative sample covering its whole distribution area, we use morphological molecular data test hypothesis that each major basin includes multiple endemic species arranged along an elevational river gradient these are upland- lowland-adapted their ecomorphology. The derives from two lines evidence, i.e. observations patterns paleogeographic reorganisation drainage patterns. Body shape morphometrics biogeographic reconstruction phylogeny supported our hypothesis, confirming upland lowland show consistent differences body proportions can explained as repeated adaptations local aquatic conditions within main basin. Ecomorphological divergence relation lentic lotic waters (lowland habitats) was all five basins studied, Madre de Dios, upper Ucayali, central Amazon-Huallaga, Marañón Napo-Putumayo basins.

Morphological characteristics of Parsi cichlid Iranocichla persa (Teleostei; Cichlidae)
To provide more morphological data of I. persa, in this study, morphological characteristics along with scales and otolith were studied. Fish samples were collected from Khorgo spring and transferred to the laboratory. Fish were classified into three class sizes based on standard length. Based on the results, the size of the first class was different in 12 relative traits but did not show a sig...
متن کاملPhylogeny and biogeography of cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Perciformes: Cichlidae)
Family level molecular phylogenetic analyses of cichlid fishes have generally suffered from a limited number of characters and ⁄or poor taxonomic sampling across one or more major geographic assemblage, and therefore have not provided a robust test of early intrafamilial diversification. Herein we use both nuclear and mitochondrial nucleotide characters and direct optimization to reconstruct a ...
متن کاملPhenotypic plasticity: its role in trophic radiation and explosive speciation in cichlids (Teleostei: Cichlidae)
Phenotypic plasticity is the capacity of an organism’s phenotype to vary in different environments. Although diet-induced phenotypic plasticity has been documented in New World cichlids, it has been hypothesised that this type of plasticity would be limited in certain Old World cichlids, because of the morphological constraints on the jaw imposed by mouth-brooding. This hypothesis was experimen...
